Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

We are remaining open today, March 13, 2020, in all Leander ISD schools. We received news from the Austin Public Health Department that they identified two presumptive cases of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Austin-Travis County.

Both cases are not believed to be community spread, which means the illness did NOT come from an unknown infected person with whom they had come into contact, according to APH. The City of Austin and Travis County will be evaluating additional protections for the community based on these positive cases. At this time, APH has not made any additional changes to current regulations around mass gatherings or other public health standards but will keep the public updated if this information changes.

In our Board of Trustees meeting last night, it was decided that any student who needs to stay home as a result of this health crisis will be marked as an “8” in our district attendance system, which is a district-excused absence.

We will continue to evaluate this situation as we receive new information. We will send another update to our families and staff later today as we head into Spring Break.
