Leander ISD is proud to announce Vandegrift High School’s Delaney Dilfer as the first Student-Athlete of the Week for the 2018–19 school year. Delaney is a junior captain of the Lady Viper varsity volleyball team.

While Delaney earned numerous athletic and academic accolades last season, it’s her leadership skills on the court this season that Vandegrift Head Volleyball Coach Melissa Southall is counting on.

“Delaney has an impeccable ability to lead on the court and in the classroom,” Southall said. “She truly models the term ‘student-athlete’ and works very hard to stay up to par in her strenuous academic classes, but never lets class load be an excuse for effort on the court. She understands as a captain, she has to set an example 24/7. Not only is she an exceptional player, she constantly wants to obtain more knowledge of the game.”

Delaney’s hard work and dedication on the court and in the classroom are just a few of the reasons she has been named Leander ISD’s Student-Athlete of the Week.
