This week’s Leander ISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) Student of the Week has made a tremendous contribution to Virtual Empowered Learning. Thanks to Vandegrift High School senior Thomas Allen, students can successfully access their CTE courses remotely.

Thomas volunteered his time with his Business Information Management teacher and Leander ISD Information Technology Services technicians to pilot Windows Remote Desktop. Using Thomas’ MacBook and a wireless hotspot, together, they troubleshot and completed a successful Windows Remote Desktop connection. Thomas’ assistance will help many Virtual Empowered Learning students across the district. Because of this significant work, VEL students can now login remotely to campus computers, so they can access the software they need for their CTE courses–truly a major accomplishment!

“Thomas has been an exemplary student in Business Information Management both virtually and in- person,” VHS Business Information Management teacher Kari Michalek said.  “Sharing his time to complete this pilot helped us make a huge step forward to support students across the district!”

Thank you Leander ISD CTE Student of the Week Thomas Allen for showing us what the brainpower of a champion looks like!
