Drive-Thru Drives Home How Much We Love Our School Nurses

School Nurse Day brought all but a few Leander ISD nurses out to receive much-deserved recognition. In all, 47 school nurses drove through a Nurse Appreciation Station set up at Vista Ridge High School. From the comfort of their own cars, our caregivers were treated to a cup of Summer Moon coffee, a Round Rock doughnut, a gift of appreciation, not to mention a showering of virtual hugs and waves of support.

The smallest gestures are making the biggest difference thanks to Leander ISD Volunteer of the Week Zandra “Sandy” Castaneda.
Sandy serves as Reed Elementary’s PTA Hospitality Chair. She coordinates monthly surprises for teachers and staff, like treat carts and “Taco Tuesday”.

Update #22: Classrooms to Remain Closed for 2019-20 School Year, Zoom Forums Next Week, Board Briefs

All school classrooms will remain closed for students through the end of the 2019-20 school year, Gov. Greg Abbott announced earlier today. In his press conference on the state’s response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic, the Governor directed school districts to Texas Education Agency (TEA) Commissioner Mike Morath for guidance on graduation and other operational decisions tied to the extended closure.

The district continues to respond to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic, with the Board of Trustees meeting remotely for its April 16 Agenda Review meeting. In addition to COVID-19, the Board discussed remote learning, bond sales, and construction.
