Multiple 2017 Bond projects greenlit and slated for summer completion
The Board formally approved guaranteed maximum prices for four 2017 Bond projects, including HVAC updates at Leander Middle and Giddens Elementary schools. The Board also gave the green light to the maximum price estimate for the Monroe Stadium expansion and Cedar Park High School grandstand replacement. The actions spur the projects forward, with each slated to be completed by the start of the 2018–2019 school year. In addition, the Board viewed a design charrette for Middle School #9, which will open in 2020 across from Glenn High School.
LISD studies use of unassigned epinephrine on campuses for student health emergencies
Leander ISD is considering the use of unassigned epinephrine pens on district campuses for student health emergencies in accordance with Texas Education Code §38.208, §38.210, §38.212 and Policy FFA (Legal). The district is required to hold a public hearing on the change, create a comprehensive training program for employees administering the program, and notify all parents enrolled in these schools. Currently, the Austin, Eanes, Georgetown, Hutto, Pflugerville, Round Rock and Lake Travis school districts have such a policy. A public hearing on this topic will be held at the May 17 Board meeting prior to any action by the Board of Trustees.
Board renews inter-local agreements for School Resource Officers
The LISD Board renewed inter-local agreements with the City of Cedar Park and the City of Leander for School Resource Officer services. LISD partners with law enforcement agencies to cover all schools, including school resource officers at all high schools. SROs work with the Texas School Safety Center in San Marcos for up-to-date practices and training in school safety.
