From Groundbreaking to Ribbon-Cutting
The dedication for Hisle Elementary School Saturday provided another special moment in the first year of #1LISDโs 30th elementary school.
The school is named after a long-time Board of Trustees member, Donald Lewis Hisle, who served on the LISD Board for 23 years before retiring in 2018.
At the dedication, the community had the opportunity to walk the halls of the new school and try on some of the learning experiences available to students each and every day.
The construction of Hisle ES was funded through project savings from the 2007 & 2017 bonds, along with some funds for roads from the 2023 bond.

Exploring new beginnings at Hisle Elementary School! Leander ISD Board President Gloria Gonzales-Dholakia, Ph.D., witnessed how our newest elementary school sparks connections, creating a brand new community from the ground up.
For students in class, that meant establishing a sense of belonging and getting to know each other through โnameโ activities.
A new building also means a brand new team of teachers and staff, including some who are new-to-profession. Support from the district level and a strong on-campus mentorship program helps make sure they have the support they need.

On the Street Podcast: Cultural Competency with Superintendent Bruce Gearing
Back for Season 2, the On the Street podcast will continue to explore opportunities to continue the conversation around educational access and highlight #1LISDโs efforts around increasing cultural competency for Leander ISD staff. Our work is about bringing people into the conversation and increasing dialectical practice.
Chief of the Office of Educational Access DeWayne Street invited Superintendent Bruce Gearing, Ed.D., to share his thoughts on the topic of cultural competency.

LISD Boosts Number of AP Capstone Recipients
In Leander ISD, 148 students have earned the AP Capstone Diplomaโข during the 2023-24 school year, growing by more than 65 percent in the number of recipients from the year prior. The AP Capstone Diploma program helps students develop critical thinking, research, collaboration, and presentation skills that are essential to academic success and are all key components of the Leander ISD Graduate Profile.
Results like this continue to highlight the districtโs commitment to challenging students to achieve at the highest levels. Just last year, these efforts earned Leander ISD the distinction of College Board Advanced Placement District of the Year.

๐ Save the Date: Rouse Automotive Car Show & CTE Expo
Rouse High Schoolโs automotive department is partnering with the Career and Technical Education team for a โCar Show and Career Technical Education Expoโ on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024. The event will take place at Rouse High School from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will include food trucks, a bounce house, face painting, games, and 14 trophies for car show participants. General admission and parking is $5 (available on arrival), while registering a car for the show costs $25.
