Election 2022: Propositions A & B
The ballot for this November’s elections will include two Leander ISD propositions.
Proposition A is an Attendance Credit Election. Due to an increase in local property values, the state is removing about $31.2 million from our district through a mechanism that is often called Robin Hood. If LISD voters approve Proposition A, the district will make its required recapture payment to the state. If voters defeat Proposition A, the state could remove dollars from our schools by forcing some taxpayers to start paying taxes to a different district instead of LISD.
Proposition B is a Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election. By approving Proposition B, voters would ratify the tax rate set by the LISD Board of Trustees and generate an additional $32 million for academics in LISD, including teacher pay and the continuity of programs.

Empowering Parents: Safety, Security, Health & Wellness Summit
With a continued focus on the safety and security of our students, Leander ISD is hosting a Safety, Security, Health and Wellness Summit, “Empowering Parents.”
This event will take place from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the South Performing Arts Center located at Cedar Park High School with a live-stream option as well.
In response to community requests for more educational awareness, district leadership and our community partners will answer questions about substance abuse, particularly the use of fentanyl. We will also address concerns about campus safety and security.
Our community partners scheduled to attend include first responders and community experts from our surrounding area.
In an effort to prepare our panel with questions to discuss, we have created a ThoughtExchange. Please submit any questions or concerns you might have surrounding topics regarding safety, security, health and wellness. Read more
Rose Parade President Visits VRHS
Amy Wainscott, President and Chairman of the Board for the 2023 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association, visited Gupton Stadium Sept. 7 to congratulate the Vista Ridge High School marching band for being selected to participate in the 2023 Rose Parade in Pasadena, Calif.
LISD Alumni Spotlight: CPHS Grad Preps for NASA’s Orion Spacecraft Launch
LISD alumnus Jorge Chong is now a NASA engineer working on the upcoming launch of the Orion Spacecraft, part of the Artemis I mission.
Chong graduated from Cedar Park High School, but also attended Cedar Park Middle School, Deer Creek Elementary and Cypress Elementary School.
“Since I started working at NASA full time about four years ago, this mission coming up is the biggest thing I’ve been a part of,” Chong said. “It felt like it had a lot of weight to it and I wanted to share it with the people who made it possible.”
Schools of Choice Feedback Wanted
As a part of the Long-Range Facilities plan, Leander ISD is expanding our Schools of Choice offerings and we are looking for your feedback on future possibilities. For some of our students, the smaller environment and specializations that a school of choice offers is just what they need to thrive and grow.
The survey will remain open until Monday, Sept. 19.

During its Sept. 8 meeting, the Leander ISD Board of Trustees:
- Approved additional COVID-19 leave for staff
- Reviewed the 2021-22 State and Community-Based Accountability System reports
- Received the LISD Council of PTA’s “State of the Council” 2022 annual report

TASSP Selects Henry MS AP as Region 13 AP of the Year

LISD Celebrates AP Capstone Diploma Recipient
An impressive 93 Leander ISD students have earned the AP Capstone Diploma and a total of 26 have earned the AP Seminar and Research Certificate during the 2021–22 school year.
The AP Capstone Diploma program helps students develop the critical thinking, research, collaboration, and presentation skills that are critical for academic success.
“We proudly recognize the achievements of students who participated in the AP Capstone Diploma program,” said Shirley Bachus, LISD Director of Advanced Programs. “Our AP Capstone students and teachers showed extraordinary commitment while facing historic challenges. This is a meaningful college readiness program that will serve our students well after high school.”
SMART Tag Provides Real-Time Monitoring for School Buses
The Leander ISD Transportation Department uses SMART Tag – a system that provides accurate, near real-time monitoring of where and when students load onto and unload off of their school bus – to help promote student safety and security, keeping parents, school administrators and the district’s transportation department more informed.
Parents and guardians can go to the SMART Tag Parent Portal and select Register to begin the registration process. Once registered, parents and guardians can sign up for SMART Alerts to receive a text message notification 10 to 15 minutes before the bus arrives at their child’s bus stop. While on the bus, the Parent Portal also provides a live map to see a bus’ location in near real time.
Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness of this stigmatized, and often taboo, topic. Suicidal thoughts, much like mental health conditions, can affect anyone regardless of age, gender or background. It’s important to be aware of warning signs that someone may be considering suicide, such as:
- Loss of interest in usual activities
- Increased or decreased sleep
- Increased alcohol and drug use
- Aggressive behavior
- Withdrawal from friends, family and community
- Dramatic mood swings
- Impulsive or reckless behavior
- Giving away possessions
- Tying up loose ends, like organizing personal papers or paying off debts
- Saying goodbye to friends and family
If you suspect that someone is having suicidal thoughts, it’s OK to ask them directly if they are thinking about suicide. If you or someone you know needs support, please seek help from a professional.

Election Reminder
As election season approaches, it is a good time to remind everyone that school district employees are prohibited from using school resources to advocate for or against a particular candidate, party or measure. School resources include our district mail/email systems, as well as campus/classroom/teacher websites and social media accounts. Employees are free to support any political candidate or issue but must ensure that the support is in the employee’s individual capacity and on their own personal time.

Elecciones 2022: Propuestas A y B
La balota para las elecciones del mes de noviembre incluirá dos propuestas de Leander ISD.
La Propuesta A: Elección para Crédito de Asistencia. Empoderando a los padres: Encuentro comunitario sobre salud, seguridad y bienestar
Con un enfoque continuo en la seguridad y bienestar de nuestros estudiantes, Leander ISD estará realizando un encuentro sobre Salud, Seguridad y Bienestar llamado “Empoderando padres”.
Este evento será el martes 27 de septiembre de 6:30 p.m. a 8 p.m. en el Centro de Artes Escénicas sede Sur de la Escuela Preparatoria Cedar Park y también se tendrá una opción de transmisión en directo.
Este encuentro se realiza como respuesta a la solicitud de la comunidad para tener más conciencia educativa, y tendremos el liderazgo del distrito y socios de la comunidad que nos acompañarán a responder preguntas acerca del abuso de sustancias, en particular el uso de la droga fentanyl. También abordaremos inquietudes acerca de seguridad y bienestar en las escuelas.
Nuestros miembros de la comunidad que están programados para asistir incluyen agentes de respuesta a emergencias y expertos de la comunidad de áreas circundantes.

Exalumno destacado de LISD: Un exalumno de CPHS se prepara para el lanzamiento de la nave espacial Orión de la NASA
El exalumno de LISD Jorge Chong, es ahora uno de los ingenieros de la NASA que trabaja en el próximo lanzamiento de la nave espacial Orión, como parte de la misión Artemis I.
Chong se graduó de la Escuela Preparatoria Cedar Park, pero también asistió a la escuela secundaria Cedar Park y a las escuelas primarias Deer Creek y Cypress.

TASSP selecciona al Subdirector de Henry MS como el Subdirector del Año Region 13
Felicitaciones a Brian Barnes, subdirector de la escuela secundaria Henry, por haber sido seleccionado para representar a Texas en la Asociación de Subdirectores de Escuelas Secundarias (TASSP) como el subdirector destacado del año de Region 13. Conozca más aquí.
LISD celebra a los recipientes del diploma AP Capstone
Un destacado grupo de 93 estudiantes han obtenido el diploma AP Capstone y un total de 26 estudiantes obtuvieron el Certificado de AP Seminario e Investigación durante el año escolar 2021-2022.
El programa AP Capstone ayuda a los estudiantes a desarrollar el pensamiento crítico, la investigación, colaboración y destrezas de presentación que son críticas para el logro académico.
“Nos enorgullece reconocer el desempeño de los estudiantes que participaron en el programa de Diploma AP Capstone”, dijo Shirley Bachus, Directora de Programas Avanzados de Leander ISD. “Nuestros estudiantes de AP Capstone y los maestros demostraron un extraordinario compromiso mientras se enfrentaron a retos únicos. Este es un programa que de verdad prepara para la universidad y les servirá mucho a los estudiantes después de su graduación de preparatoria”.
SMART tag el nuevo sistema que le informa en tiempo real las rutas de los buses escolares
El departamento de Transporte de LISD usa ahora el sistema SMART Tag, una plataforma que da información precisa, en la mayoría de los casos en tiempo real de donde y cuando está llegando la ruta de bus de su estudiante, en la llegada y salida de la escuela. Este sistema ayuda a promover la seguridad y bienestar del estudiante, mantiene a los padres, administradores y departamento de transporte más informados.
Los padres pueden ir al portal para padres de SMART Tag y seleccionar el registro para comenzar. Una vez registrados los padres pueden configurar las alertas SMART para recibir notificaciones por mensaje de texto de la llegada del bus a su parada asignada. Mientras el estudiante viaja en el bus, el sistema brinda un mapa en vivo de la localización del bus en tiempo real.
Mes de concientización sobre la prevención del suicidio
El mes de septiembre es el mes de concientización de la prevención del suicido, una época para reflexionar sobre un tema que ha sido estigmatizado y es ha sido tabú en muchos círculos. Los pensamientos acerca del suicidio, así como muchas condiciones de salud mental pueden afectar a cualquier persona sin importar su edad, género o antecedentes. Es importante tener en cuenta algunos señales de precaución de que alguien puede estar considerando el suicidio, tales como:
- Pérdida de interés en actividades habituales
- Aumento o disminución de los hábitos de sueño
- Aumento en el uso de drogas o alcohol
- Comportamiento agresivo
- Aislamiento de los amigos, familia y comunidad
- Cambios de temperamento repentinos o fuertes
- Comportamiento impulsivo o negligente
- Regalar sus posesiones o pertenencias
- Terminar con asuntos pendientes, como organizar documentos personales o pagar deudas
- Despedirse de amigos y familiares
Si usted sospecha que una persona está teniendo pensamientos suicidas, está bien preguntarle directamente si está pensando en el suicidio. Si usted o alguien que conoce necesita ayuda, busque la asesoría de un profesional en esta materia.

Recordatorio sobre las elecciones

Los recursos escolares incluyen materiales del distrito/sistemas de correo electrónico, así como las páginas web de escuelas/clases/maestros y cuentas de redes sociales. Los empleados tienen la libertad de apoyar al candidato político de su elección o medida específica, pero deben asegurarse que ese apoyo sea con los recursos y en la capacidad personal del empleado y fuera de las horas laborales, es decir con su tiempo libre personal.

Plazo extendido para propuesta de sesiones de la Conferencia de Mejoramiento Continuo de 2022
Aún tiene tiempo para enviar su propuesta de sesión para la conferencia de mejoramiento continuo #LISDCIC. Necesitamos de SU colaboración para que esta conferencia sea una poderosa herramienta de aprendizaje para todos.
Por favor comparta su experiencia, conocimiento, intentos y logros con sus compañeros en una sesión que puede ser parte de la CIC, estamos extendiendo el plazo hasta el jueves 15 de septiembre. Las propuestas de sesiones pueden ser presenciales o virtuales. Aquí debajo encuentra los formularios para las propuestas:

El Gran Bus Rosa llega a Leander ISD
La unidad móvil de mamografías llega a Leander ISD. Esta es una gran oportunidad para los empleados ya que ofrece valoraciones preventivas de cáncer de seno. La campaña se llevará a cabo en dos fechas y lugares:
- Lunes Oct. 17 en la escuela preparatoria Glenn
- Lunes, Oct. 31 en el edificio administrativo
