Traffic Safety

‘Tis the season to be outdoors! With field trips and more students walking and riding their bikes to school, please remind everyone you know: family, friends, construction crews coming and going from your neighborhoods, etc., to be a little extra cautious while driving. There have been a few incidents of vehicles rear-ending buses and students injured on their way to and from school recently. Let’s join together to help our kids have a safe and stupendous spring!

Campus Connection

Plain Elementary exemplifies a learning environment dedicated to safety and innovation! Whether they’re celebrating diversity or celebrating one another through their classwork, students are building each other up, building skills at the same time. From predictions to poetry, at Plain Elementary, see for yourself, there’s nothing plain about it!

New-Student Registration is Now Open for the 2022-23 School Year

Registration for students who are new to the district, entering Kindergarten, or looking to start Prekindergarten (PreK), the New-Student Registration page is open for the 2022-23 school year. For more details about online and in-person registration for new students, click here.

Update on District Budget

We anticipate a $35.7 million dollar budget shortfall for the 2022-23 school year. One of the ways we hope to increase revenue is through a Voter-Approved Tax Rate Election or what’s called a VATRE. We know school finance is a complicated issue that directly impacts property taxpayers. Be on the lookout as we will be sharing helpful bite-sized videos that will help make sense of our cents.

Join Our Two-Way Dual Language Program

Leander ISD has adopted a Dual Language Enrichment model that aims to produce bilingual, bi-literate and bi-cultural individuals across all content areas by 5th grade. Applications are available now for the 2022-2023 school year. To be considered for the program, incoming kindergarten students must apply. Submissions will be accepted online, in person or via mail by Monday, May 9 at 5 pm. Learn more here.

Elementary and Secondary Teacher Job Fair

Come join #1LISD and be a part of a growing family dedicated to student and staff empowerment in safe and supportive learning environments. We are hosting job fairs for elementary and secondary teachers next month. This is a great opportunity to connect with us and find out why, “It’s Different Here!”

COVID-19 testing site at Running Brushy set to close on April 22 

The COVID-19 testing site located at Running Brushy Middle School will close on Friday, April 22. Staff, students, and the public can still access the testing site located at Gupton Stadium at Vista Ridge High School Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Curative’s website will provide more details on making appointments and types of testing.

Current Academic Calendar Revised Due to Bad Weather

School will operate on a regular schedule April 18, May 11 & 18. Due to February’s winter storm, Leander ISD Board of Trustees approved changes to the academic calendar to make up time lost. April 18 was already designated as a Bad Weather Make-Up Day. May 11 &18 will no longer be early release days. Visit the Calendar page for the latest information.

Off-Campus PE Applications Due by June 3

Off-campus Physical Education (PE) is an optional program utilized by students in grades 6-12 who wish to apply to receive their PE credit through an outside, privately funded, pre-approved organization.

All off-campus PE student applications for the 2022-23 school year are due to your school counselor or through the OCPE website no later than Friday, June 3, 2022 at 4 p.m. The updated policies, procedures and forms can be reviewed in detail on the Leander ISD OCPE website.

Through a unique partnership between Concordia University Texas and Leander Independent School District, high potential LISD teachers have the opportunity to earn their Master of Education degree with a specialization in Educational Administration. La precaución al conducir

¡Esta es la temporada en que la gente comienza a salir más! Con salidas de campo, estudiantes montando en sus bicicletas o jugando más afuera, les queremos recordar a todas las familias, amigos, personas que trabajan en obras de construcción en los vecindarios, de tener mayor cuidado al conducir. Hemos tenido algunos incidentes de vehículos aproximándose muy cerca o chocando nuestros buses escolares y algunos estudiantes que han sufrido accidentes yendo de camino a la escuela o a sus casas. Siempre es importante recordar conducir con suma precaución, especialmente en las zonas escolares. ¡Ayude a nuestros niños a disfrutar una primavera de forma segura!

La Escuela Primaria Plain ejemplifica un ambiente de aprendizaje dedicado al bienestar y la innovación. Bien sea al celebrar la diversidad o celebrar unos a otros a través de las actividades de las clases, los estudiantes están apoyándose unos a otros y a la vez elevando sus habilidades. ¡Desde inferir a trabajar en poesía, en la escuela primaria Plain, no hay nada que sea simple, sino siempre elevado a un mejor propósito, véalo usted mismo en este video!

Matrículas para estudiantes nuevos para el año escolar 2022-2023 

Las matrículas para estudiantes nuevos en el distrito que ingresen a  Kindergarten, o que busquen ingresar a  Prekindergarten (PreK), ya pueden hacer su registro en línea en la página de registro de estudiantes nuevos para el año escolar 2022-23. , Para más detalles acerca de como hacer la matrícula en línea o en persona hacer clic aquí.

Actualización acerca del presupuesto del distrito

Anticipamos un déficit al presupuesto de $35.7 millones de dólares para el año escolar 2022-2023. Una de las formas que esperamos incrementar nuestro ingreso es a través de la elección de tasa de impuestos aprobada por el votante o como se conoce con la sigla VATRE. Sabemos que las finanzas escolares son un asunto complicado cuando impacta directamente los impuestos de propiedad. Espere próximamente información que compartiremos en algunos videos ilustrativos, para que conozcan más a fondo cómo se utilizan estos fondos.

Únase a nuestro programa de Lenguaje Dual desde Kindergarten, aplicaciones abiertas

Leander ISD ha adoptado el Modelo de Enriquecimiento de Lenguaje Dual para todas las clases bilingües. La meta de la educación bilingüe bajo este modelo es educar a personas bilingües, bi-alfabetizadas y bi-culturales en todas las áreas de contenido hasta 5° grado. La aplicación para el programa de Lenguaje Dual para el año escolar 2022-2023 para estudiantes nuevos de Kindergarten está disponible ahora. Las aplicaciones deben entregarse a LISD, en línea, en persona o por correo con plazo hasta el 9 de mayo de 2022 a las 5 p.m. para ser considerados para el programa. Más detalles aquí.

El sitio de pruebas de COVID-19 localizado en Running Brushy cerrará a partir del 22 de abril

El sitio de pruebas de COVID-19 operado por Curative y localizado en Running Brushy, cerrará a partir del 22 de abril. Los estudiantes y el público en general aún pueden seguir accediendo a estos servicios en el sitio localizado en el estadio Gupton en Vista Ridge High School de lunes a viernes, 8 a.m. a 5 p.m.

Revisión al calendario académico actual debido a inclemencias del tiempo

Las escuelas operarán en horario habitual el 18 de abril, 11 y 18 de mayo para recuperar el tiempo académico a causa de las tormentas de invierno de febrero. La Junta Directiva de Leander ISD aprobó este cambio al calendario académico y así recuperar el tiempo de instrucción perdido. El 18 de abril ya había sido designado como día de recuperación por mal clima, y los días 11 y 18 de mayo ya no tendrán salida temprana. Diversidad de pensamiento, no un conglomerado de pensamiento

“Nuestra habilidad para alcanzar la unidad en la diversidad será la belleza y la prueba de nuestra civilización” -Mahatma Gandhi. Al celebrar el mes de la Diversidad, estas palabras nos ayudan a preguntarnos, ¿cómo podemos pasar a un lugar donde los que nos separa, no sea lo más importante acerca de nosotros? Profundice un poco más en estas palabras, al analizar el “efecto de conglomerado” en un nuevo mensaje del Jefe de Diversidad, Equidad e Inclusión de Leander ISD, DeWayne Street.
