The members of the Leander High School HOSA Medical Reserve Corp. (MRC) team – seniors Ayaan Ahsan, Sachin Gangireddy, Sindhuja Madala and Asiya Maredia – are the Leander ISD Career and Technical Education Students of the Week.
This team has accumulated close to 450 hours of service in conjunction with the local MRC, part of a national network of more than 300,000 volunteers, organized locally to improve the health and safety of their communities. MRC volunteers step up to keep their family, friends and neighbors safe and healthy.
“The LHS HOSA MRC team is a remarkable group of seniors dedicated to learning about public health and volunteering their time to help provide their community with knowledge and skills,” Health Science Teacher Amber Hall said. “It is not often that you find high school seniors so willing to volunteer their time outside of school to help the community. They are and will continue to be model citizens in the Leander Community, and we couldn’t be more proud of them.”
This team has gone above and beyond any expectations established by their HOSA advisors. Their projects include: collecting items and building appreciation baskets for Leander first responders; assisting with a blood drive on our campus where over 30 units of blood were obtained and will stay in the central Texas area; Narcan training; organizing and holding CPR training for LHS seniors and two Stop the Bleed classes for all interested students on LHS’s campus; assembling over 400 emergency preparedness packs to be distributed to the community; assisted with a Dell Children’s Toy Drive; organizing mindfulness sessions for International Stress Day; and educating the student body on International Handwashing Day.
This is only to name a few, and there are many more plans in the works prior to competing in the MRC competition at the Area HOSA competition in February. All four seniors have previously competed in HOSA area competition, placed in the top three and advanced to the HOSA state competition in the past.
