College Board announced that six high schools in Leander ISD have been named to the 2024 Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) School Honor Roll, earning three Gold and three Bronze distinctions.
The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.
“Not only did all six high schools earn the AP Honor Roll Award, but all six also earned the additional AP Access designation,” said Shirley Bachus, Leander ISD director of advanced programs. “This additional recognition is only given to schools who earn the honor roll distinction and the percentage of underrepresented and low-income students accessing the school’s AP Program is the same as, or greater than the percentage in the school’s graduating class.”
Schools earning the 2024 Honor Roll Recognition Status include:
- Cedar Park High School, Gold
- Leander High School, Bronze
- Rouse High School, Bronze
- Glenn High School, Bronze
- Vandegrift High School, Gold
- Vista Ridge High School, Gold
“AP gives students opportunity to engage with college-level work, to earn college credit and placement, and to potentially boost their grade point averages,” said Trevor Packer, head of the AP program. “The schools that have earned this distinction are proof that it is possible to expand access to these college-level courses and still drive strong performance – they represent the best of AP.”
In 2023, Leander ISD was named a College Board Advanced Placement District of the Year for being the national leader among large-sized school districts. The recognition reflects the district’s unwavering dedication and steadfast commitment to every individual that completes #1LISD.
