A School Meal Benefit Application can connect qualifying families with much more than breakfast and lunch. From student technology and testing discounts to assistance with fine arts and athletics, completing one confidential application is a quick way to potentially unlock valuable savings and support throughout the school year. In addition, your application helps Leander ISD secure vital school meal and education funding.
Even if you’re unsure whether your family qualifies, it’s worth applying. Many families are surprised to learn they’re eligible, especially if household income or circumstances have changed.
Free School Meals for Qualifying Students
Students who qualify for either free or reduced-price meal benefits will receive breakfast and lunch at no cost during the 2026–27 school year.
A state grant authorized by the 89th Texas Legislature covers the cost of reduced-price meals during both the 2025–26 and 2026–27 school years. This means students who might otherwise receive meals at a reduced price will also eat for free.

- Grants of up to $500 per student for approved private lessons or voice instruction

- Reduced or waived fees for summer athletic camps and strength and conditioning programs

- Take-home weekend food through campus Backpack Programs, coordinated by school counselors and based on availability at each campus

School Meal Benefit Applications help Leander ISD qualify for important state and federal funding that supports student programs and resources.
The number of qualifying students can affect funding and other forms of support available to individual schools. By completing the application, eligible families help ensure their students, campuses and district receive the resources for which they qualify.

Eligibility is based on factors such as household size, income and participation in certain assistance programs.
Household circumstances can change during the year. Families may submit an application at any time, especially following a loss of employment, reduction in income or increase in household size.
Some students may qualify automatically based on participation in SNAP, TANF or the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations. Students identified as foster, homeless, runaway, migrant or displaced by a declared disaster may also qualify automatically, along with students enrolled in Head Start or Even Start.
Leander ISD will contact households whose students have been identified as automatically eligible. Those families do not need to complete an application.
Apply for the 2026–27 School Year
Families should complete a new School Meal Benefit Application for the 2026–27 school year. The application is confidential and available through the Leander ISD Child Nutrition Services website.
Paper applications are also available from Child Nutrition Services at 1900 Cougar Country Drive in Cedar Park.

Note: Familles who would like to participate in the Free/Reduced (SBP/NSLP) meal program must reapply each year. If you are currently participating in the meal program and do not reapply, your student’s meal benefit will stop on September 24, 2026.
