Applications Open to LISD Families for Free and Reduced-Price School Meals
Leander ISD families are invited to apply for free and reduced school meals for their student(s). Applications may be submitted anytime during the school year. The district will provide free and reduced meal benefits for children served under the current income eligibility guidelines outlined below.
Criteria for Free and Reduced-Price Meal Benefits
- Income: Household income that is at or below the income eligibility levels
- Automatic Eligibility: Households receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) are automatically eligible for Free and Reduced-Price meals.
- Program Participant: A child’s status as a foster child, homeless, runaway, migrant, or displaced by a declared disaster. Children enrolled in Head Start or Even Start are also eligible.
Income Eligibility
For households that qualify for free or reduced-price meals based on income, an adult must complete an application for free and reduced-price meals. The application may be completed online.
Individuals filling out the application will need to provide the following information:
- Names of all household members
- Amount, frequency and source of current income for each household member
- Signature of an adult household member attesting that the information provided is correct
Automatic or Program Eligibility
Leander ISD will notify the families of children who are automatically or program-eligible that they do not need to complete an application. If you have not received a letter and feel that you should have, please contact the Leander ISD Child Nutrition Services (CNS) Office at 512-570-0672. You may also contact the CNS Office to decline benefits.
Determining Eligibility
The Leander ISD CNS Office will review applications and determine eligibility under the provisions for the free and reduced-price meal policy. If families wish to make a formal appeal for a hearing on the decision, they may make a request in writing to Brandon Evans, LISD’s senior executive director of operations, at [email protected].
Unexpected Circumstances
If there are any changes in household circumstances, such as unemployment, or if the household size increases, families may contact their school campus directly to determine if they become eligible for benefits.
