Opened in 2012, Leander ISD’s eighth middle school — Florence W. Stiles Middle School — was named after longtime resident and former educator, Florence Wallace Stiles. Mrs. Stiles was born and raised in Leander in an area now known as Old Town. She graduated as salutatorian from Leander High School in 1945 and went on to earn a degree in business administration and two teaching certifications from the University of Texas in 1948.
Mrs. Stiles had a storied teaching career in LISD and made important civic contributions to the community as a charter member of the Leander Chamber of Commerce and founding member of the Leander Public Library. The naming of this middle school honors Mrs. Stiles’ example of dedication, stewardship and life-long learning.
