Leander ISD is thrilled to announce that Christy Hilbun, a seasoned campus leader within the district, has been selected as the inaugural principal of the new Early Childhood Center. The Early Childhood Center (ECC) is scheduled to open its doors for the 2026-2027 school year.

“Christy Hilbun embodies the leadership qualities essential for an exceptional Early Childhood Center, including early childhood experience, a strong commitment to inclusion and the ability to create joyful, developmentally appropriate learning environments grounded in research and practice,” said Leander ISD Acting Superintendent Chris Clark, Ed.D. “Her previous experience opening a campus, clarity around instructional expectations, and a collaborative, reflective leadership style position her to unite staff, partner with families and successfully launch this innovative early learning center.”

Hilbun brings more than a decade of experience leading early childhood communities in Leander ISD, most recently serving as principal of Giddens Elementary since 2023, and before that, as principal of Tarvin Elementary, a campus she helped open in 2021. She was also principal at Bagdad Elementary, where she played an essential role in establishing the school’s early childhood learning community. Prior to moving into administrative campus roles, Hilbun was an instructional coach and an elementary school teacher, having taught PreK through fourth grade.

“I am excited for the opportunity to partner with our community to create a nurturing, joyful and engaging learning environment where children feel safe to explore, grow and thrive,” Hilbun said. “Together, we will ensure our youngest students have a fantastic start to their educational journey, one that sparks curiosity, builds confidence, and fosters a lifelong love of learning. I can’t wait to begin this exciting work.”

Throughout her time in Leander ISD, Hilbun has been highly involved in a variety of district committees and leadership groups. She served as a member on Leander ISD’s Long-Range Planning Committee, the Continuous Improvement Steering Committee and the Empowering Learners mLISD Steering Committee.

Hilbun received a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Texas Tech University. She went on to complete her Masters of Education in Educational Leadership from Lamar University.
