Leander ISD broke ground on a new Early Childhood Center on May 1, 2025. The ceremony brought students, families, district leaders and community partners together to celebrate the future of the district.

“This center will be a place where our youngest learners take their very first steps into education — where curiosity is encouraged, imaginations are nurtured, and strong foundations are built for a lifetime of learning,” Chief Operations Officer Jeremy Trimble said. “We’re proud to continue the tradition of growth on this land — and even more excited to watch what the future holds for every student who starts their journey here.”

The ECC will be located near the intersection of San Gabriel Parkway and Halsey Drive, in the growing northern part of the district. This project is aimed at relieving elementary schools in the area that are currently serving prekindergarten students.

Instead of attending PreK at an elementary school, they’ll be able to go to school at a facility specifically designed and constructed with them in mind.

“We are not just building walls and classrooms—we are creating a nurturing environment tailored to meet the unique developmental needs of our 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds. This is a space where curiosity will be encouraged, where learning will come to life, and where every child will be given the support they need to thrive,” said Erin Garner, director of Early Childhood.

Leander ISD interior design students, in the Career and Technical Education program, had the chance to learn about the unique needs of PreK students. They’ve been collaborating with O’Connell Robertson on the design of a space in the ECC. Read more

Construction on the ECC will begin once permits are approved. The school will welcome its first class of prekindergarten students in the 2026-27 school year.
