In advance of National Library Week, Leander ISD is celebrating our outstanding librarians from April 13-17.
“Our school libraries are welcoming, busy and thriving spaces where K-12 learners are checking out books, accessing Makerspace items like 3D printers — purchased with bond funds — getting basic tech support or just hanging out with friends,” said Becky Calzada, district library coordinator.
This school year has been especially busy for all our Leander ISD librarians as they support the over 41,000 students in the district.
In total, librarians have checked out 532,353 physical books to students across all of our elementary and secondary campuses. At an average cost of $20 per book, school libraries have saved Leander ISD over $10 million.
Even on school breaks, students can access Sora, the district’s digital library, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. To date, students have checked out a total of 192,029 audio and e-books.
“Certified school librarians play a huge role on their campuses by collaborating with teachers on lessons, organizing book fairs, teaching media literacy, and so much more,” Calzada said. “Happy School Library Week to all of our school librarians and library assistants!”
