Dear Leander ISD Community,

Like many districts across Texas, Leander ISD is facing a serious budget shortfall. State funding for public schools has remained unchanged since 2019, even as inflation and costs have soared. At the same time, the state continues to impose unfunded mandates—requiring school districts to meet new requirements without providing the money to cover them. Meanwhile, TX SB2 – the voucher bill currently being considered by the legislature, would divert taxpayer dollars from public schools to private institutions, further straining our resources.

Earlier this week, Leander ISD communicated staffing reductions developed by the Superintendent and administrative team to address the deficit. We are still in the early stages of budget development and the final budget will be presented to the Board of Trustees for approval in June 2025. We are committed to thoughtfully considering the needs of our students, educators, and campuses. We encourage you to stay engaged as we hold an open and transparent upcoming board meeting on February 13, 2025 and board budget workshop on February 27, 2025. Together, we will navigate these challenges and work toward solutions that best serve our students and community.

Sincerely,

Leander ISD Executive Officers
Gloria Gonzales-Dholakia, Ph.D., Board President
Anna Smith, Board Vice President
Sade Fashokun, Board Secretary
