One of the many exciting benefits for students in LISD CTE classes is the opportunity to join and participate in a variety of Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO). These organizations provide students the chance to apply their CTE curriculum in competitive events as well as develop their leadership skills for the future.
Students in Leander ISD Career and Technical Education STEM programs of study have an opportunity to participate in organizations like FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) and FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC).
FRC is an international high school robotics competition. Each year, teams of high school students, coaches, and mentors work during a six-week period to build game-playing robots that weigh up to 125 pounds.
FTC is an international competition where teams (up to 15 team members, grades 7-12) are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format.
Last year Leander ISD’s robotics teams finished out a rewarding competition season, winning medals and achieving new feats throughout their tournaments. Some of those major accomplishments include both Vista Ridge and Cedar Park High School FTC teams winning first place in their respective UIL divisions. Vandegrift High School’s QuadX 6299 robotics team also earned 2nd place at the state championships and the Inspire Award.
