Leander ISD is pleased to announce Robert Gillis as the new principal of Leander Middle School after the Board of Trustees approved his hiring at Thursday night’s meeting.

“Robert is a highly relational and student-centered leader who views the LMS principalship as his dream role,” Superintendent Bruce Gearing, Ed.D., said. “His engaging, visible leadership style will be instrumental in strengthening the positive culture that defines Leander Middle School.”

Gillis returns to Leander ISD after serving as an elementary principal in Liberty Hill ISD, where he managed campus teams, provided coaching and feedback to staff, and oversaw instructional practices on campus.

“I am excited to return to Leander Middle School to serve the community as principal,” Gillis said. “I believe in partnering with parents, staff members and our Leander community to ensure that we are able to reach each and every student. I can’t wait to get to work serving the students, teachers and families in Leander.”

Before serving in Liberty Hill, Gillis served as lead assistant principal at Leander MS, where he was an instructional leader of professional learning communities (PLCs) and served on various committees for relational practices and the whole child. Earlier in his educational career, Gillis held teaching and coaching positions in Belton and Rogers school districts.

Gillis is a graduate of Leander ISD’s Prospective Principal Program. He earned his Bachelor of Science from Angelo State University and went on to earn his master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Texas at Arlington.
