Leander ISD has been named a District of Distinction by the Texas Art Education Association, a reflection of LISD’s excellence in visual arts.

This prestigious recognition is awarded to districts that demonstrate a strong commitment to providing a well-rounded education through the integration of visual arts. Awarded districts exemplify excellence in visual arts instruction that fosters creativity, supports social-emotional learning, and connects students to their communities and the broader world.

TAEA, the state’s leading advocate for visual arts education, has a longstanding tradition of recognizing excellence among its members. Now in its seventh year, the District of Distinction Award celebrates school districts that meet rigorous standards based on evidence gathered across a 14-point rubric.

For the 2025 award cycle, over 1,200 districts were eligible to apply. Only 109 met the criteria, placing them in the top 8 percent of districts in Texas for art education.

“Leander ISD has set a high standard for visual arts advocacy, curriculum integration, creative development, community engagement, and student growth,” said Megan Liles, LISD director of fine arts, visual and performing arts. “This award is a true testament to the skill and dedication of our visual art educators. Their commitment ensures students receive high-quality and meaningful visual arts experiences.”
