Due to the district’s 2-hour delay caused by icy conditions in January, Leander ISD will make a minor adjustment to elementary and middle school bell schedules beginning March 24, 2026, when students return from Spring Break.

A 5-minute change will recover instructional minutes lost during the late start and ensure the district remains in compliance with Texas Education Agency (TEA) requirements while creating the least disruption possible for students, families and staff. The adjustment will remain in effect for the rest of the school year.

Adjusted Bell Schedules

  • Elementary School:
    7:30 a.m.-2:50 p.m.
Previous dismissal time at 2:45 p.m.
  • Middle School:
    9:00 a.m.-4:20 p.m.
Previous start time at 9:05 a.m.
  • High School
    8:15 a.m.-3:35 p.m.
    No change

Bus Routes

Transportation routes may see a small timing adjustment to account for the changing bell schedule. If your student’s route is affected, you will receive a direct notification.

Why is the adjustment needed?

TEA requires districts to use built-in instructional minutes in the academic calendar to account for bad weather days before granting a waiver. Leander ISD used all the built-in instructional minutes during the two-day closure from Jan. 26-27. Because TEA does not issue waivers for late starts, a school district must make up those minutes through schedule adjustments.

An adjustment is not needed at the high school level because high school already has the additional 5 minutes under the current bell schedule.
