Straight A’s: Artist of music. Athlete. Actor. Academics! This week’s LISD Fine Arts Student of the Week Seryna Payne is leaving a mark at Leander Middle School.
Seryna made All-Region Band and All-Region Orchestra as an oboist. Students must learn different musical pieces and audition in order to perform with the top musicians across the region. LMS band teacher Cathy Teltschik said Seryna has just started learning to play a euphonium, ready to step into marching band at Leander High School in the fall.
“She is a small girl, but is willing to play a large brass instrument in marching band because she wanted to play something that the band needs,” Teltschik said. “This is a great example of how she goes the extra mile to help out.”
In Athletics, Seryna plays volleyball. An an actor, she performed in UIL One Act and was recognized as Best Supporting Actor. In Academics, she’s the president of the National Junior Honor Society. And while she’s all about the A’s, she veritably has made straight A’s throughout middle school.
Outside of school, Seryna volunteers in the summer at the Leander Public Library as a reading buddy. That’s just one more reason why she’s earned the respect of most teachers who say, “Seryna is amazing!”
“While she is a very dedicated student, she is also a lot of fun to be with on band trips,” Teltschik said. “She can eat as many sopapillas as anyone in the band!”
Congratulations to our Fine Arts Student of the Week Seryna Payne for whole-heartedly scaling up in so many areas of student life!
