Senior Amy Valdovino at Rouse High School is the Leander ISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) Student of the Week.
Amy is a part of Rouse’s Hospitality Program and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapter.
In FCCLA, Amy and her team were first-time competitors this year in a Chapter Service Portfolio event, where students were required to plan, implement and reflect on a community service project that impacted their community directly. The team excelled at their community project, placing first at Regionals, third at State, and receiving an invitation to compete at Nationals in Denver, Colorado, this summer.
In the hospitality program, Amy began as a student in Travel and Tourism Management, trying to find the niche that satisfied her traveling bug. After endless discussions, Amy got a job working at her local HEB Center so she could see all the different facets of the hospitality industry. She filled in the gaps with a second year internship at the Grove Restaurant and the Austin Sheraton Convention Center and Hotel.
“Amy is an innovative and creative thinker who has made teaching the aspects of the Hospitality industry so much fun!” FCS Teacher Jodi Garner said. “Her site managers have incredibly positive things to say about Amy’s work ethic and initiative. I cannot wait to see what she will do in this industry once she graduates!”
Amy’s site supervisors have been so impressed with Amy and all that she has accomplished this year that a possible career opportunity has emerged. She is easy to work with, excellent with customers and an overall wonderful student in the Hospitality program.
