Leander ISD is excited to welcome Chris Clark, Ed.D., to the role of deputy superintendent of learning and innovation, after the Board approved his hiring at Thursday nightโ€™s meeting.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Chris Clark as our new Deputy Superintendent of Learning and Innovation for Leander ISD,โ€ said LISD Superintendent Bruce Gearing, Ed.D. โ€œWith 19 years of experience as a campus principal and his current role as assistant superintendent of curriculum, Dr. Clark brings a deep knowledge of learning, curriculum and assessment, paired with strong leadership and a clear understanding of our Strategic Plan. Weโ€™re excited for the fresh ideas and innovative approaches he will bring to this vital role, helping to shape the future of education in our district.”

Clark joined Leander ISD in June 2023 as the districtโ€™s assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction. In this role, he led a division of LISDโ€™s Teaching and Learning department, facilitated a collaborative development and implementation of districtwide strategies in the District Improvement Plan in areas like Accelerated Math Pathways and Professional Learning Communities, and contributed to better alignment between the Campus/District Improvement Plan with LISDโ€™s Strategic Plan and Community-Based Accountability System

Clark also supported the expansion of PreK programs in Leander ISD, adding an additional 7 PreK3 classrooms and 3 PreK4 classrooms during his tenure as assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction.

“Serving as Leander ISD’s assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction has been the most rewarding experience in my career, and I am excited about the work we are doing for students and families in this district,โ€ Clark said. โ€œI am honored that Dr. Gearing and the Board of Trustees have entrusted me with the opportunity to serve the #1LISD community as the deputy superintendent of learning and innovation. I look forward to deeper and ongoing collaboration with district and campus staff as we work to provide students with an educational experience that empowers them to own their learning and pursue their passions.”

Before serving in Leander ISD, Clark held leadership roles within Frisco ISD and Tulsa Public Schools in Oklahoma, first as a teacher, then as an assistant principal, principal, and then as managing director of academic programs for Frisco ISD โ€” totaling 30 years of experience in education and nearly two decades of educational leadership.

Clark attended Northeastern State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. He completed a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction and School Administration at Oklahoma State University, and he went on to complete a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership at the University of North Texas.

Clark replaces Matthew Gutierrez, Ed.D., who departed LISD for a superintendent position with Del Valle ISD earlier this fall.
