Area Superintendent Laurelyn Arterbury, Ed.D., steps into the role of district chief of staff. The Board of Trustees approved the recommendation during Thursday night’s board meeting. Her promotion is effective immediately.
“Without a doubt, Laurelyn is one of the most passionate educators I have ever worked with,” LISD Superintendent Bruce Gearing, Ed.D., said. “Her experiences at the campus and district level in two large, fast-growth districts have prepared her for any challenge that lies ahead. Dr. Arterbury gets to know people quickly and is never afraid to hold them accountable to her high standards. She is a natural leader who builds strong, positive relationships. Her collaborative nature and ability to adapt to changing circumstances will always enable her to be successful. Dr. Arterbury is a champion for children as well as a highly competent and confident manager. I look forward to working side-by-side with her as we face the challenges ahead.”
Dr. Arterbury came to the district in 2016 as the executive director of College and Career Pathways. A year later, she became area superintendent. Coaching and supporting principals, Dr. Arterbury also collaboratively leads the district’s Equity and Diversity Advisory Committee and helped implement professional development programs like the Prospective Principal Program and Aspiring Administrators Academy. She demonstrated initiative and effectiveness serving for several months as interim chief technology officer. Before her tenure at LISD, Dr. Arterbury taught high school in Round Rock ISD where she eventually became an associate principal and principal.
“I am honored to serve as chief of staff in our outstanding school district,” Dr. Arterbury said. “The opportunity to work alongside Leander ISD staff, parents, and community members to support the learning needs of each and every student is something in which I take great pride. It’s a privilege to continue to grow in a district with such a rich culture and history of success.”
As chief of staff, Dr. Arterbury will provide an instrumental role in supporting Superintendent Gearing through guiding communication, leading initiatives and advising the cabinet and executive teams. Through assessing processes and strategies, she will ensure all efforts focus on student learning.
A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Artebury received her bachelor of arts in history. She later earned a master’s and doctorate degree in Educational Administration from Texas State University and Texas A&M University, respectively.

La Superintendente de Área, Laurelyn Arterbury, Ed.D. pasa a ocupar el rol de Directora Jefe de Personal del Distrito. La Junta Directiva aprobó la recomendación durante la reunión del jueves en la noche. Su promoción se hace efectiva inmediatamente.
“Sin lugar a dudas, Laurelyn es una de las más apasionadas educadoras con las que he trabajado”, dijo el Superintendente de LISD, Bruce Gearing, Ed.D. “Sus experiencias a nivel de escuela y distrito en dos distritos de alto crecimiento la ha preparado para enfrentar cualquier desafío. La Dra. Arterbury conoce rápidamente las personas y no teme hacer cumplir la responsabilidad para sus altas expectativas. Ella es una líder natural que construye fuertes lazos y relaciones positivas. Su naturaleza de colaboración y habilidad para adaptarse a las circunstancias cambiantes siempre le capacitará para tener éxito. La Dra. Arterbury es una defensora de los niños y a su vez es altamente competente y una administradora eficaz. Espero trabajar con ella muy de cerca, a medida que enfrentamos los desafíos que se presenten.”
La Dra. Arterbury llegó al distrito en 2016 como Directora Ejecutiva de College and Career Pathways. Un año más tarde pasó a ser Superintendente de Área. Capacitando y apoyando a los directores, la Dra. Arterbury también colaboró activamente en el Comité Asesor de Equidad y Diversidad del distrito y ayudó a implementar programas de desarrollo profesional tales como el programa de Prospectos para Directores y la Academia de Aspirantes a Administradores. Ella ha demostrado su efectividad e iniciativa al servir varios meses como Jefe Interina de Tecnología. Antes de estar en LISD, la Dra. Arterbury enseñó en escuelas preparatorias de Round Rock ISD donde eventualmente pasó a ser subdirectora y luego directora.
“Me siento honrada de servir como Directora Jefe de Personal en un distrito escolar sobresaliente como el nuestro”, dijo la Dra. Arterbury. “La oportunidad de trabajar al lado de los empleados de Leander ISD, padres y miembros de la comunidad para apoyar las necesidades de cada uno de los estudiantes es algo que me llena de orgullo. Es un privilegio continuar creciendo en un distrito con tan rica cultura e historial de éxito”.
Como Directora Jefe de Personal, la Dra. Arterbury estará en un papel clave al apoyar al Superintendente Gearing a través de guiar la comunicación, liderar iniciativas y asesorar el gabinete y los equipos ejecutivos. A través de evaluar procesos y estrategias, ella asegurará que todos los esfuerzos se centren en el aprendizaje de los estudiantes.
La Dra. Arterbury es graduada de la Universidad de Texas en Austin, con un diploma de pregrado en Historia. Luego obtuvo su grado de Maestría y Doctorado en Administración Educativa de Texas State University y Texas A&M University, respectivamente.
