A good system shortens the road to the goal. Kate Porcher, a volunteer at Rutledge Elementary, has created a system so teachers can quickly and easily access just the right books that will help students on their journey toward reading fluency.
Before Porcher, the school’s library had hundreds of books in the guided reading library, but they weren’t organized in an efficient manner. She spent hours of her time organizing the library in a way that would work for teachers.
“Readers are leaders, and Kate is a leader for our school,” said Principal Beth Mohler. “She helps make sure every kid gets to grow as a reader. And, she shares a smile and a happy story with everyone who goes by.”
Porcher stops by the school multiple days a week to return books to the right place and maintain the organization. Because of her hard work, teachers can access the books they need for kids without added stress.
