Leander ISD is proud to announce that Vista Ridge High School has earned its third recertification as an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) National Demonstration School.

AVID National Demonstration Schools feature strong leadership committed to college readiness, trained educators that implement AVID strategies campus-wide and a culture of high expectations.

The AVID program began at Vista Ridge in 2007 and quickly expanded across all grade levels, becoming integrated into classrooms beyond the elective course. In 2013, Vista Ridge first earned recognition as an AVID National Demonstration School, a milestone that reflected the strength of its implementation and shared instructional vision. The distinction has been sustained through multiple revalidations in 2017 and 2022, highlighting the campus’s long‑term dedication to excellence and continuous improvement.

As part of the recertification process in 2026, the campus hosted an AVID Showcase, where guests experienced the AVID elective class and tutorials in action, observed how AVID strategies are used campus-wide and gained insight from the Vista Ridge AVID site team and students.

Students shared firsthand how AVID is supporting their success in high school and beyond — from learning to take effective notes to writing essays on prompts they may encounter on future college applications.

“AVID at Vista Ridge is a place where you can make friends and not feel alone,” said AVID I student Kennedy Huddleston. “It’s a beautiful environment where you can be yourself and ask for help at any time. I’ve been able to grow so much as a student and I wouldn’t be where I am today if I hadn’t joined AVID.”

A key part of the AVID program’s success at Vista Ridge is a shared belief amongst educators that every student deserves access to engaging and rigorous instruction. From campus administration to counselors to instructional coaches and support staff, the entire team works together to reinforce AVID principles in every aspect of their work, ensuring that AVID is a sustained way of teaching and learning across the entire campus.

“This recertification is both a moment of pride and a source of momentum,” said Vista Ridge High School Principal, Keith Morgan, Ed.D. “It is an encouragement to continue growing together, and more importantly, this achievement reflects a shared belief in students and each other. It highlights a campus culture that prioritizes opportunity, celebrates learning, and remains committed to preparing students not just for what is next, but for their role in the world.”

Vista Ridge’s status as an AVID National Demonstration School status will remain valid for the next three years, the longest recertification period available.
