The Board of Trustees discussed naming for Elementary School 27 and Middle School 9 at its Nov. 20 meeting, reviewing options in three categories: geographical, historical or national figure, or a local contributor to Leander ISD.

Leander ISD collected 450 submissions during its public comment period in October and November. The Board will discuss specific names and consider action during their Dec. 13 regular meeting.

“There is no shortage of great suggestions when it comes to the naming of our new schools,” Superintendent Dan Troxell, Ph.D., said. “It is heartening to see that so many took the time to make a submission and make their voices heard.”

Elementary School 27 will be located in the Larkspur subdivision, in the northern-most portion of Leander ISD. The LISD Board of Trustees voted to approve Scenario B for the 2019-2020 elementary attendance boundaries during the March 22, 2018 Board meeting. For more information about the approved scenario and transfer recommendations, please visit the Elementary 27 Attendance Zoning webpage.

Middle School 9 will be located across from Glenn High School. The Board will begin reviewing possible zoning scenarios in the next three to six months.

“As a fast-growth district slated to open five new schools in the next five years, the board felt it was important to carefully consider namesake nominations well in advance,” Trustee Pamela Waggoner said. “We appreciate our community’s involvement in this process as we consider their submissions.”
