LISD wrapped up two days of our Continuous Improvement Conference with the express purpose of refreshing and recharging our teachers and staff. They aren’t just teaching students; dozens of them shared their passion and purpose with their colleagues across the district. We can’t wait to see how classrooms transform thanks to CIC2020!

#LISDisHappening

Student working on laptop

Meet Sebastian Landis. Sebastian goes to Vista Ridge High School. Not only a freshman, but Sebastian is also new to public school. We had the chance to catch up with him during his Fundamentals of Computer Science class where he was programming a robot to go from one number to the next.

“I feel like coming to public school would be different; I didn’t know what to expect, but it’s been super fun,” Sebastian said.

“I like meeting new people, and I knew there would be barriers, but I’ve still had the chance to meet people.”

Meeting new people, learning new things, it’s happening! You can help share the story. If you know someone who chose other options for their child’s education, let them know #LISDisHappening. For information on re-registration, contact your campus registrar.

Board Briefs

Leander ISD Trustees reviewed the latest district COVID update, formed a Board policy update subcommittee, and discussed the design process for Elementary School 29 at their Oct. 9 meeting. View the entire agendaWatch the video.

The Oct. 9 meeting was the first in a revised Board meeting schedule and format that will make more efficient use of Trustees’ meeting time. Trustees will meet primarily on the second and fourth Thursday of the month and have a rolling agenda, where topics are added to a meeting for discussion and voted on at the next.

All school board positions are four-year terms and represent the entire school district. Three Board positions are up for election Nov. 3:

  • Place # 3 – Currently held by Pamela Waggoner
  • Place # 4 – Currently held by Grace Barber-Jordan
  • Place # 5 – Currently held by Jim MacKay

Please visit our website for candidate information, county voting sites and more.

Hearing from our community at Board meetings via Citizen Comment is important to us. For information on recent updates to the Citizen Comments process, please visit the LISD knowledge base.

Parenting the Love and Logic Way® course ONLINE

Leander ISD’s Student and Family Support team facilitates the Parenting the Love and Logic Way® course ONLINE during the fall of 2020. This six-week program is designed to help parents nurture responsible, respectful, fun-to-be-around sons and daughters. Children will learn how to make their own choices, own their problems, and think critically and logically for themselves. Parents will discover how to let empathy and consequences do the teaching.

The course is appropriate for parents of children of all ages in any environment. The series is open to all parents in our Leander ISD community.

Online classes are Thursdays from 6 to 8:00 p.m. and run through Nov. 12. Here’s additional information on this series, the Love and Logic® philosophy, and how to register.

If you have any questions, please contact Mary Ann Kluga at [email protected] or 512-570-0315.
