Leander ISD is proud to announce Vista Ridge High School junior Melayna Lopez as the LISD Student-Athlete of the Week.

Melayna is a three-year starter on the Lady Ranger softball team and is currently leading the team in batting average, hitting .559. In the recent bi-district playoff series, Malayna went 6 for 10 at the plate with 2 home runs, 5 RBIs and 4 runs scored in three games.

Melayna is a part of the Lady Ranger Softball Leadership team and is recognized by her peers as a selfless leader. Off the field, Melayna is a member of Rangers Against Destructive Decisions and Be Real, a VRHS leadership organization.

“Malayna is a leader on and off the field at Vista Ridge,” coach Lauren Myrick says. “She is respected by her peers and teammates for her hard work, positive attitude and the way she leads by lifting up those around her. She has the nickname “Meltuve,” as she is the epitome of Lady Ranger Softball’s philosophy of respect and excellence.”
