Sade Fashokun is the newest member of the Leander ISD Board of Trustees. During Thursday night’s meeting, she took the oath of office during a swearing-in ceremony. Fashokun replaces Jim MacKay who resigned from the Place 5 position in September. 

“I come into this position with an open mind and a willingness to build relationships,” Fashokun said. “From the beginning of my involvement with the district as a parent volunteer, I felt encouraged by very small steps that were making a difference in students’ lives. As my responsibilities have grown into leadership positions, my focus remains on what’s best for students. I look forward to listening, learning and contributing with a collaborative spirit.”

Fashokun and her husband have two children who attend Westside Elementary School and Cedar Park Middle School. An active volunteer in our schools through PTA leadership and other various roles, she also served the district on the School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) and Bond Oversight Committee. 

“I am thrilled that Sade will be joining the Board,” Board President Trish Bode said. “She recognizes the learning potential of our Leander ISD students and seems eager to dive into the materials, do the research, and contribute her thoughtful voice to our team of eight.”

Earning a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Lagos, Fashokun later received a Master of Business Administration from Carnegie Mellon University and a Juris Doctor from the Seattle University School of Law. 

During the Sept. 30 Board meeting, Trustees decided to fill the seat through an appointment. The outcome precludes the cost of a special election and allows a complete, seven-member board until an election in November 2022. At that time, candidates will run for the open Place 5 seat to finish the term left vacant by former Trustee Jim MacKay through November 2024.

SADE FASHOKUN SE POSESIONÓ COMO NUEVA MIEMBRO DE LA JUNTA DIRECTIVA DE LEANDER ISD

Sade Fashokun es la nueva miembro de la Junta Directiva Escolar de Leander ISD. Durante la reunión del jueves en la noche, ella tomó su juramento al posesionarse en el nuevo rol durante la ceremonia de nombramiento. Fashokun reemplaza a Jim MacKay quien renunció a su posición de Puesto 5 en el mes de septiembre.

“Yo llego a esta posición con una mente abierta y una disposición a construir lazos”, dijo la Sra. Fashokun. “Desde el inicio mi participación con el distrito ha sido como madre voluntaria, y me sentí animada desde dar pequeños pasos a hacer una diferencia en las vidas de los estudiantes. A medida que mis responsabilidades han aumentado en posiciones de liderazgo, mi enfoque permanece en qué es lo mejor para los estudiantes. Yo espero escuchar, aprender y contribuir con un espíritu de cooperación”.

La Sra. Fashokun y su esposo tienen dos niños que asisten a la escuela primaria Westside y la Escuela Secundaria Cedar Park. Como voluntaria activa en nuestras escuelas a través de liderar las PTA y otros diversos roles, ella también sirvió al distrito desde el Comité Asesor de Salud Escolar (SHAC) y Comité Orientador del Bono.

“Me emociona gratamente que Sade se una a la Junta Directiva,” dijo la presidenta de la Junta Directiva, Trish Bode. “Ella reconoce el potencial de aprendizaje de nuestros estudiantes de Leander ISD y está ansiosa de explorar los materiales, realizar la investigación y contribuir con su valiosa voz a nuestro equipo de ocho miembros de la junta”.

La Sra. Fashokun obtuvo su diploma de pregrado en Ciencias Informáticas de la Universidad de Lagos, luego obtuvo su maestría en Administración de Negocios de la Universidad de Carnegie Mellon y un Doctorado en Jurisprudencia de la Facultad de Leyes de la Seattle University.

Durante la reunión del 30 de septiembre los miembros de la Junta Directiva decidieron llenar el puesto a través de una designación. El resultado precluye el costo de una elección especial y permite una junta completa de siete miembros hasta una elección en noviembre de 2022. En ese momento, los candidatos participarán en la elección del puesto 5 para concluir el término vacante dejado por el anterior miembro de la Junta, Jim MacKay hasta noviembre de 2024.
