In accordance with Texas Education Code (TEC), §28.0256, beginning with students enrolled in 12th grade during the 2021-2022 school year, each student must do one of the following as a requirement for graduation.
- Complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Complete and submit a Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA)
- Submit a signed opt-out form to your campus counselor.
The FAFSA is available for current seniors and families beginning October 1, 2021. The priority deadline for most Texas institutions of higher education is January 15, 2022. Please check with the financial aid office of the institutions for which an application for admission is submitted.
Upon completion of the FAFSA, students may be eligible for scholarships, grants, work-study, or student loans. In addition to determining eligibility for federal Pell grants, the FAFSA/TASFA is required by many colleges/universities in order to accept a scholarship.
