As part of the seventh and eighth-grade science and ninth-grade high school health curricula, students will learn about the human reproductive system, abstinence, and human sexuality. This material will be taught in two or three-day windows at every Leander ISD middle and high school campus by Austin-based company LifeGuard between Nov. 4 and May 24.
Parents or guardians may contact their school to schedule an appointment to view the material at their home campus. You may also request an electronic parent preview via the LifeGuard website two weeks prior to each of the parent workshop dates. We will host virtual parent workshops via Zoom throughout the year; future times and locations are listed below.
Parent workshops are designed to give parents helpful tips for communicating with their children (grades 7–9) about human sexuality, allow them to review the material, explore statistics from health officials and ask questions of LifeGuard and LISD staff.
You may choose to exempt your child from this instruction by completing and returning the opt-out letters found at the bottom of the Human Sexuality Curriculum page.
To register for a virtual parent workshop, find student presentation dates by campus, and additional LifeGuard information, please visit the Human Sexuality Curriculum website.
