At the top of her voice, Leander ISD Fine Arts Student of the Week Maura Connors sounds supreme!

The junior at Vandegrift High School has made region choir for the past 5 years! Maura made first chair in 2018 and again in 2021. In Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All-State competition, Maura earned a spot in the Treble Choir last year. This year, she made Mixed Choir. To make All-State Choir once is an honor, but for a student to make All-State choir twice is a rare achievement!

In other competitions, Maura is hitting high notes as well. As a mezzo-soprano, Maura placed third in the 2020 Texoma NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) vocal competition and was a semi-finalist in 2021. Additionally, she finished third place in the Concordia University Texas High School Young Voices competition in 2021 and placed first in the 2021 South Texas NATS vocal competition.

For the past 3 years in the VHS Choir Solo Contest, Maura won in 2021 and was a finalist this year and in 2020. Beyond her talent, she serves as a section leader in both Chamber Choir and Chorale as well as a student leadership officer.

“Maura lifts the entire choir to a higher standard because of her work ethic and musicianship. She is also one of the kindest students I’ve taught.” VHS Choir Director Michael Zook said.

Finely tuned and talented, Bravo to Maura Connors–#1LISD Fine Arts Student of the Week!
