We are canceling Virtual Empowered Learning (VEL) for all high school students on Thursday, Aug. 13, and Friday, Aug. 14, due to an issue with the web content filtering tool that allows students to connect to the internet on their district-provided laptop.
Elementary and middle school students will start on-time tomorrow, as scheduled. The issue does not impact Chromebooks or personal devices, which our elementary school students will be using. The web content filtering tool has the capacity for all middle school students to be logged in for our first days of the school year.
The district upgraded its web content filtering tool in the summer to allow all district laptops to be online at the same time. On late Wednesday afternoon, our vendor notified us the solution they provided would not work. They learned about the malfunction after another school district lost functionality when they started school earlier this week.
The vendor is sending us additional servers, which we will install Friday evening and over the weekend to start school on Monday.
