Leander ISD welcomes Laura Marques, Ph.D., to the Board of Trustees. Marques took the oath of office during a swearing-in ceremony at Thursday night’s meeting. She is replacing Francesca Romans who resigned from the Place 6 position in October

“I’m honored to serve Leander ISD in this new leadership role,” Marques said. “My experiences as a parent and volunteer have given me a deep appreciation for the heart and excellence that define this district. I’m eager to listen, learn and work alongside others to continue creating the best possible opportunities for our students.”

Marques and her husband have two children who attend Tarvin Elementary. She has served in several volunteer capacities within the District, including with site-based committees, the Special Programs Parent Advisory Council and PTA.

“Laura has an honest, genuine heart to serve our community well,” Board President Anna Smith said. “Her background in child psychology, education systems and family advocacy will contribute greatly to how our team of eight can best support student outcomes. Her excitement and passion make me thrilled to welcome her as our newest Board member.”

Earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Loyola University in New Orleans, LA, Marques went on to pursue a doctoral degree in School Psychology from Tulane University. She provides psychological services to children and families while also participating in program development and teaching and mentoring of clinicians as an adjunct assistant professor with Tulane University School of Medicine.

During the Oct. 23 Board meeting, Trustees decided to fill the seat through an appointment. The outcome precludes the cost of a special election and allows a complete, seven-member board until an election in November 2026.
