Leander ISD schools will open on April 23, 2018, as a weather makeup day for the Jan. 16 cancellation day due to inclement weather.
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) requires all districts to adopt a school calendar that provides 75,600 operational minutes and 187 teacher contract days. While the state of Texas requires a set amount of instructional minutes for each school, LISD holds a higher value on the number of instructional days as having the most impact on student success.
Leander ISD has two bad weather makeup days, April 23 and May 25, on the school year calendar. Because a holiday does not fall on April 23, LISD leadership selected it as the best option for the make-up day.
