Leander ISD, along with several other area school districts, came together on Saturday, March 1 at McNeil High School in Round Rock ISD to host the 25th annual “Destination… Life” Transition Conference, designed to prepare students with disabilities and their families for life after high school. A total of 610 people attended the event.

The “Destination… Life” Conference is one of the only of its kind in the state of Texas. Attendees got to visit with over 103 exhibitors who shared resources for the transition to adulthood, including adult living options, post-secondary education and training, state and agency support, social opportunities, and more. Over 50 presentations were available for families to attend. A highlight of the presentations was the “Inspiring Journeys” panel — in which 4 of the 5 speakers were graduates of Leander ISD. During the panel, speakers explained how they accessed their post-secondary options and shared their successful journey into adulthood.

Being a part of the conference is of utmost importance to the Leander ISD Special Programs department. “We hold this conference so that families are prepared with information about options after their child no longer accesses public education,” said Denise Geiger, Leander ISD sr. transition coordinator. “Our team has always been committed to helping students learn about the choices they have as they age into adulthood.”

In addition to serving as co-host of the event, the district also supported the event with over 20 volunteers. The Special Programs team would like to thank the Special Programs Parent Advisory Council (SPPAC) for being present and sharing the resources that families in Leander ISD have to support their students.
