Jon Bailon-Valdez is the newest Star at Laura Bush Elementary School. The Leander ISD Board of Trustees selected Bailon-Valdez as the school’s next principal at Thursday night’s board meeting.

“Please join me in welcoming Jon Bailon-Valdez as the new principal for Laura Welch Bush Elementary. Jon is a passionate leader who has demonstrated an ability to build a campus that sets high expectations and promotes learning for students and staff. His dedication to student growth and deep passion for parent partnerships will serve to enhance the culture of success at Bush Elementary.”

Bruce Gearing, Ed.D., Leander ISD Superintendent

Bailon-Valdez currently serves as assistant principal at Westside Elementary. Prior to joining LISD, he spent several years at El Paso-area school districts – Ysleta, Socorro and El Paso ISDs – as an elementary, middle and high school assistant principal. Bailon-Valdez established his roots in education as an elementary school teacher.

“My initial reaction was nothing short of exhilaration and gratitude for the opportunity. Alongside the support from our Laura Bush parents and community, I hope to ensure that our school is a safe, welcoming and nurturing space for each and every child. In this space, Bush students and educators will be able to thrive and excel socially, emotionally, and academically. I want to build strong bonds and partnerships to become a premier educational space that honors and recognizes diversity, fosters responsible risk-taking and challenges each and every child.”
