The LISD Office of Educational Access (OEA) is seeking to establish an ambassador group for LISD parents/guardians during the 2024-2025 school year. This group will work with and represent OEA with respect to both internal and external stakeholders. The ambassadors will help champion enhancing educational access for ALL students. OEA is seeking parent representatives from each feeder pattern who are willing to serve as Educational Access Ambassadors (EAA) for the 2024-2025 school year.
Program Objectives
The Educational Access Ambassadors (EAA) will have several primary functions:
- Serve as champions for enhancing educational access for ALL LISD students and families,
- Provide updates regarding OEA plans and actions to their respective feeder pattern communities (OEA provided) as part of a larger outreach campaign,
- Will bring forward recommendations and concerns for OEA to review and address as warranted,
- Will participate in monthly meetings to receive OEA updates and to engage in adult learning related to cultural competency and inclusive practices.
Ambassador selection guidelines are as follows:
- Must currently have a student enrolled in LISD,
- Must have a desire to advance educational access for ALL students and families in LISD (as determined by an application rubric),
- Must be willing to serve a 1-year term as an educational access ambassador,
- Must be willing to attend all scheduled meetings,
- By serving on this committee, it will not constitute a conflict of interest in the following areas:
- Intending to or currently under contract with LISD for the delivery of training related to cultural competency or diversity issues,
- Employed as a vendor of diversity training and resources.
- Must complete and submit the Educational Access Ambassador application form by 5:00 p.m. October 4, 2024.
Selection Process
The Chief and Executive Director of the OEA will ensure that all criteria and guidelines for participation are met. Application submissions that meet all criteria and participation guidelines will undergo a blind review process utilizing a predefined scoring rubric.
Priority will be given to support feeder pattern and campus-level balance. The total number of EAA members will not exceed 36 individuals.
Timeline
- Recruitment for the EAA group will close the application window on October 4, 2024 at 5 pm local time.
- Staff will evaluate submissions and notify those selected.
- The first meeting of the inaugural EAA group will be held on – October 30, 2024.
Meetings will be held at the Leander Extended Opportunity (LEO) Center on Wednesdays from 5:30 – 6:45 p.m. on the following dates:
- October 30
- November 20
- January 29
- February 26
- March 26
- April 30
