Leander ISD is thrilled to announce that Cypress Elementary Assistant Principal Justin Gomez will become the school’s next principal. The Board approved his hiring at Thursday’s meeting.

“Having served as assistant principal, Justin brings deep knowledge of and dedication to the Cypress community,” said LISD Superintendent Bruce Gearing, Ed.D. “He empowers students and staff through authentic relationships and a shared commitment to growth. Under his leadership, Cypress will continue to thrive as a positive and inclusive learning environment.”

Gomez has served as assistant principal for the past five years at Cypress Elementary, where he has played a key role in fostering academic growth and community connection. He worked closely with campus Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to support student success on STAAR assessments and prioritized relationship-building through initiatives like Cheetah Chats with students and staff, as well as active collaboration with the campus PTA. In addition, Gomez has supported leadership development among staff by serving as an administrative mentor. He began his career in education in 2013 as a 5th-grade teacher.

“It’s an honor to continue leading at Cypress Elementary, now in the role of Principal,” Gomez said. “Cypress is a campus where connection, creativity and community are at the heart of all that we do. I’m excited to partner with our extraordinary students, staff and families as we build on Cypress’s strong traditions and create opportunities for every Cheetah to lead their learning.”

A graduate of Texas State University with a Bachelor of Science in education, Gomez earned his master’s degree in educational and community leadership, also from Texas State. Gomez is also a graduate of Leander ISD’s Prospective Principal Program (P3).
