Two Leander ISD teams – the Cedar Park HS girls and Vandegrift HS boys – returned from the UIL State Soccer Championships last weekend with the top prize, both holding off their opponents by 3-1 margins.

These state titles mark firsts for both schools in these programs.

The Cedar Park HS Timberwolves were up against Wakeland HS from Frisco ISD on Friday, April 11 at Birkelbach Field in Gerogetown. The girls racked up three goals before halftime and won their 5A Division 2 state title game 3-1. Special shoutout to Meredith Koltz for capturing the MVP honors with two goals.

On Saturday, April 12, the Vandegrift HS Vipers also took Birkelbach Field to compete in the 6A Division 2 finals against Mesquite HS. The boys jumped on a 3-0 lead and went on to win 3-1 over Mesquite HS, earning them the state championship. Special shoutout to James Hehman for capturing the MVP honors after scoring the team’s first goal of the match.

Congratulations also to two other #1LISD teams – the Vandegrift HS girls and the Vista Ridge HS boys – for finishing as state semifinalists. What an incredible year on the pitch!
