Akin Elementary Assistant Principal Wendy Gonzaba will take flight as Camacho Elementary’s new principal. Leander ISD Board of Trustees approved the hiring during Thursday night’s board meeting.
“Wendy is a dynamic leader who has served in our district since 2008. Throughout her career in LISD, Wendy has proven to have a vast amount of experience in instructional practices and a rich background in meeting the needs of each and every student. Armed with her passion and vision for elementary education and a deep commitment to building relationships, Wendy is ready to lead Camacho to greatness,” Superintendent Bruce Gearing, Ed.D., said.
Gonzaba’s professional career started in Leander ISD. At Knowles, Bagdad and Cypress Elementary, she spent almost ten years in the classroom as a substitute, special education instructional assistant and teacher. In 2017, Gonzaba helped open Akin ES when she moved into administration. New to the position as assistant principal, she helped create and cultivate campus-wide systems like Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), Response to Intervention (RTI), Supplemental Reading Program (SRP), among others. As a testament to her innovation, Gonzaba helped launch LISD’s first Aspiring Administrator Academy.
“I am incredibly excited and honored to have been chosen to serve the students, staff and families of Camacho Elementary as principal and look forward to building strong relationships with the entire campus community,” Gonzaba said. “Together, we will ensure all students have access to diverse and rich learning experiences that support their academic, social, and emotional success in and beyond the classroom. Go Cosmos!”
A graduate from LeTourneau University with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies, Gonzaba also earned her master’s degree in education administration from Lamar University.
