After careful consideration, the Leander Independent School District Board of Trustees will move forward with an internal search for the district’s next superintendent. The position posted today.

Board members said the decision reflects a focus on continuity in learning and district culture, while building on the work already happening across Leander ISD. Trustees emphasized that an internal search recognizes and supports the leadership currently serving students, staff and families.

“We have strong confidence in the District’s internal leadership pipeline. That is what we do – grow leaders,” Board President Anna Smith said. “Limiting the search internally creates an opportunity to identify the right fit while maintaining stability during an important time for the District.”

Following the retirement announcement of Superintendent Bruce Gearing, Ed.D., the Board appointed Deputy Superintendent of Learning and Innovation Chris Clark, Ed.D., as acting superintendent. While the acting role was initially intended to support transition, the Board has since invited Dr. Clark to apply.

As part of the search, the Board is gathering community feedback through a survey, providing parents, staff and stakeholders an opportunity to share input. With several significant decisions ahead, the Board intends to move efficiently while still collecting meaningful data and perspectives to inform the final decision.

Trustees also noted the importance of moving forward without delay. Board members expressed appreciation for district staff and leaders who have worked to ensure stability during a challenging period. Additional details about the timeline and communication will be shared on Superintendent Search webpage.
