The Leander ISD Board of Trustees voted to adopt the recommended academic calendar for 2019–20. The Board also announced the 2020–21 calendar, with formal approval slated for November  2019, pending changes from the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

The calendar for next year includes the following features:

  • Aug. 15 start date with a short first week;
  • the last day of school on May 29;
  • more balanced semesters;
  • professional learning during the school year; and
  • a Spring Break that aligns with the University of Texas at Austin.

The adoption of the calendars follows an extensive effort to collect community feedback, resulting in nearly 5,000 survey responses.

“We listened when our community expressed a strong preference for the district to produce calendars for consecutive school years,” Trustee Pamela Waggoner said. “Our focus continues to be on a schedule that supports students’ academic growth, as well as supporting our families and teachers with a timely approval process. I believe this effort accomplishes both of these goals.”
