Getting a jumpstart on his future, Hank Badder is lighting up as our Leander ISD Career & Technical Education (CTE) Student of the Week.
Hank is taking advantage of the wealth of CTE courses at Leander High School. As a sophomore, he enrolled in JROTC and Culinary Arts. However, taking Ronny Williams’ Electrical Technology class is setting him up for a future career as an electrical engineer. In his first year, he got a job working at Elliott Electric Supply.
The story gets even better.
Williams’ former student Nick Daniels hired Hank for the position. Williams got Nick that same job back when Nick attended LHS as a sophomore. Nick has worked there ever since, moving his way up to store manager.
“This moment where a former student has hired a current student brings tears to my eyes,” Williams said. “I tell my students when they first enroll in my class that the end-goal for me is to have them fully employed when they walk the stage. By having numerous partnerships with the industry, it allows me to fulfill that goal.”
Williams has taught at Leander HS for 14 years. During that time, he has had a 100% success rate of seniors employed before graduation day.
Through this work experience, Hank will have the opportunity to learn the many different components involved in electrical design. All of these things will apply to his future career in engineering.
