When lawmakers passed House Bill 496 in 2019, it mandated every school in LISD will have a bleeding control kit, or trauma kit. You can find these kits in each automated external defibrillatorΒ (AEDs) on every campus. Certain staff members will get special training on how to use them as required.

The law also says that Texas school districts need to offer bleeding control training to students in grades 7–12. We’re organizing some voluntary training sessions for our students. Each session can take up to 100 7th-12th-grade students from each LISD feeder pattern.

Pre-Registration

To maintain appropriate instructor-to-student ratios, pre-registration is required for participation. Upon registering, students will receive a link to the Wilco EMS Outreach “Stop the Bleed: Hemorrhage Control Training” online course. Completion of the full course and passing the accompanying knowledge check is mandatory and serves as the student’s admission to the hands-on skills session.

Only students whose names appear on the official completion spreadsheet β€“ verifying both course viewing and a passing score – will be permitted to attend the in-person training.

In-Person Training

We will be offering two opportunities to attend this training. All training sessions will run from 5–6 p.m., though sessions may end earlier depending on attendance. Please ensure timely transportation arrangements are made in case the session concludes before 6 p.m.
