Lead. Compete. Inspire. Leander ISD Student-Athlete of the Week Elena Welch isn’t strong for a girl. She’s just strong!
The Canyon Ridge Middle School eighth-grader participates in football, cross country, soccer and track. Elena’s hard work in practice has led to some great performances in games, including a 50-yard run to set up a touchdown and a 30-yard field goal to seal a win for the Eagles!
Elena doesn’t just tackle sports. She also competes with Canyon Ridge’s Destination ImagiNation–a challenge that encourages students to use STEM skills to problem solve.
“Elena Welch is a great addition to our CRMS football program this year,” boys athletic coordinator Seth Simmons said. “Every day, Elena leads by example in practice by giving consistent, great effort. Elena has a ‘team first’ mentality and all of our coaches have been impressed with her ability to learn new concepts and improve her skills. Elena is a true leader on our team.”
Beyond her strength as a player. Elena has become an emblem for so much more.
“Elena is an inspiration for all female athletes to go out and play the sports you want to play,” girls athletic coordinator Brenda Edwards stated. “She is a strong, determined athlete, and I am very proud to have her in our program.”
Scoring big from every angle, Let’s get rowdy for Elena Welch–LISD Student-Athlete of the Week! Way to go!
