Leander ISD is pleased to announce Rachel Baker as the next principal of Tarvin Elementary School. The Board of Trustees approved her hiring at Thursday’s meeting.

“With more than 25 years of experience in education, Rachel is a student-centered leader who drives academic success through strong relationships, collaboration and a clear focus on learning,” said Leander ISD Superintendent Chris Clark, Ed.D. “I am confident that under Principal Baker’s leadership, Tarvin Elementary will continue to thrive and support every student’s success.”

Baker currently serves as the assistant principal of Winkley Elementary, a role she has held since 2022. In this position, she has supported campus improvement efforts through instructional leadership, student support systems and staff development. She has also helped oversee campus operations, safety procedures and testing coordination while mentoring and coaching teachers and staff.

Prior to joining the Winkley leadership team, Baker served as an instructional coach at Giddens Elementary and as a Texas State Exchange Teacher and mentor at Larkspur Elementary. Her educational career spans more than two decades, including classroom teaching experience in Leander ISD, Round Rock ISD, Grapevine-Colleyville ISD and Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD. She has taught multiple elementary grade levels and also served as a reading intervention and special education teacher.

“I am honored to serve as the next principal of Nancy Tarvin Elementary,” Baker said. “Tarvin’s reputation for inquiry, innovation and keeping students at the center of every decision makes it a truly special place to learn and grow. I look forward to building strong relationships with staff, students, families and the community, while partnering together to build on Tarvin’s tradition of academic excellence.”

A graduate of the University of North Texas, Baker earned a Bachelor of Science degree in interdisciplinary studies. She later earned a Master of Education in educational leadership and policy studies from the University of Texas at Arlington.
