Leander ISD is pleased to announce Daniel Villarreal Sr. as the district’s new Chief Financial Officer. Villarreal brings more than four decades of experience in public finance, auditing and school business operations. LISD Board of Trustees approved the hiring during its regular meeting on Thursday, June 4.

As chief financial officer, Villarreal will oversee the district’s financial and business operations, including budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, purchasing, and long-range financial planning. Superintendent Chris Clark, Ed.D., said Villarreal’s exceptional track record defines what Leander ISD needs in this role.

“Dan’s leadership style emphasizes strong collaboration, mentorship, and team cohesion,” Clark said. “We are grateful to have him join our executive leadership team and for the depth of experience he brings to the role. His thoughtful approach to financial planning and commitment to responsible stewardship will help position our district for long-term success.”

Villarreal spent more than 25 years in North East ISD, one of Texas’ largest school districts, including 15 years as chief financial officer. During his tenure, he managed multiple successful bond programs, led operational efficiency initiatives, and helped guide the district through significant organizational and enrollment changes.

“I am truly excited about the opportunity to join Leander ISD and contribute to a district with such a strong commitment to student success,” Villarreal said. “The vision, culture and focus on excellence align closely with my own values and professional goals. I look forward to bringing my experience and energy to support the continued growth and success of the district.”

Villarreal earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from The University of Texas at San Antonio. He will begin serving as chief financial officer on June 15.
